The detection range of an ultrasonic sensor depends on the wavelength and frequency it uses. The longer the wavelength, the smaller the frequency, and the larger the detection distance. For example, the detection range of a compact sensor with a millimeter wavelength is 300~500mm, and the detection range of a sensor with a wavelength greater than 5mm can reach 8m. Some sensors have a narrower 6º acoustic emission angle, making them more suitable for detecting relatively small objects. Other sensors with sound emission angles of 12º to 15º can detect objects with larger inclinations. In addition, we have ultrasonic sensors of the external probe type, the corresponding electronic circuits are located in the conventional sensor housing. This structure is more suitable for occasions where the detection installation space is limited.
Almost all ultrasonic sensors can adjust the near and far point or measuring range of the switching output. Objects outside the set range can be detected, but will not trigger a change in output state. Some sensors have different adjustment parameters, such as the response time of the sensor, the return loss performance, and the setting adjustment of the working direction when the sensor is connected to the pump equipment.
Factors such as wavelength will affect the accuracy of ultrasonic sensors, and the main influencing factor is the speed of sound waves that changes with temperature. Therefore, many ultrasonic sensors have the characteristics of temperature compensation. This feature enables the analog output type ultrasonic sensor to achieve a repeatability of up to 0.6mm over a wide temperature range
